Screening recommendations for an abdominal aortic aneurysm are different for men and women.

For men

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that men ages 65 to 75 who have ever smoked should have a one-time ultrasound screening for an abdominal aortic aneurysm. If you are a male age 65 to 75 and have never smoked, your doctor may advise screening based on other risk factors, such as your health history or family history.

For women

In general, women don't need routine screening, according to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. And there's not enough evidence to support screening for women with smoking or family history of abdominal aortic aneurysm.
