Formula – Understanding Nutrition (FUN) Research Study
Dr. Bridget Young from URMC Pediatric Allergy & Immunology is the Principal Investigator for this project.
Purpose of Study: To investigate how different types of carbohydrates in infant formula affect a baby’s pancreas and intestines. This will help us to understand how the different carbohydrates lactose vs. glucose vs. sucrose may impact infants’ blood sugar.
Who Can Participate In The Study: 4-6 month old healthy infants who are being exclusively formula-fed at least 3 months with one of the following formulas:
Enfamil Infant (any type)
Store Brand of Enfamil Infant
Similac Advance (any type)
Store Brand of Similac Advance
Similac Sensitive (any type)
Store Brand of Similac Sensitive
Similac For Spit Up
Length of Study: The study is only one visit.
What Happens At The Study Visit?:Baby will be fed some glucose water and measure how his/her insulin and glucose respond by collecting urine and a heel prick.
Reimbursement: $100
