CDC Guidelines Change for Isolation and Quarantine (as of 12/27/2021)

**NOTE** As of 1/4/2022, the NYS DOH is aligning with the CDC’s updated isolation and quarantine recommendations as listed below.

If You Test Positive For COVID-19 (ISOLATE)

EVERYONE: (regardless of vaccination status).

  • Stay home for 5 days. Day 0 is the day of symptom onset, or (if asymptomatic) the day of collection of the first positive specimen.
  • If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house.
  • Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days**.
    • **This is the most important part of these new guidelines, especially for people who are unvaccinated. It has been shown that those who are unvaccinated can shed the virus for a longer period of time compared to the vaccinated population.

If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.

If You Were Exposed to Someone with COVID-19 (QUARANTINE)

IF YOU:

Have been boosted

  • Test on day 5 with a PCR or antigen test.

If you develop symptoms take a test and stay home.

IF YOU:

<OR>
Completed the primary series of J&J over 2 months ago and are not boosted
<OR>

THEN YOU:

  • Stay home for 5 days. After that continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
  • If you can’t quarantine you must wear a mask for 10 days.
  • Test on day 5 with a PCR or antigen test.

If you develop symptoms take a test and stay home!
