Before Your Baby is Born

We encourage expecting parents to schedule a prenatal visit at our office in Rochester. This visit with our pediatricians allows you to:

Please call our office at (585) 426-4100 and ask to speak with Lori Decker to schedule a prenatal visit.   We would love to welcome your family into ours!

Delivery at the Hospital

Your baby will be seen by the pediatrician on call at your delivery hospital in Monroe County. Discharge instructions will be given at the hospital.  All newborns are seen in the first 7-10 days of life, the majority being at 2-3 days of age. We ask all new parents to call our office at (585) 426-4100 from the hospital 1-2 days after the baby’s birth (or upon discharge) to establish contact and help determine the timing for the first visit.

Well Child Visits

It is important to get your child on a consistent schedule for check-ups and physicals, especially during the first 3 years of your child’s life. This relationship with one of our pediatricians helps your child develop and grow while building trust. This is vital for your child’s health and can prevent health problems before they arise. Immunizations

Vaccination is probably the most important thing that we do as pediatricians, both for the health of your child and for the health of the general public. There has been a barrage of bad science and misinformation regarding vaccines in the past decade. We understand that any injection into your child comes with a level of concern and anxiety. However, we strongly recommend that our patients receive all of the currently approved vaccines. We do not recommend skipping any specific vaccine, or following an alternate or “spread out” schedule, as there is no scientific evidence that this is necessary and leaves your child vulnerable to the diseases we vaccinate against. Please refer to our Immunization Schedule page for more information on immunizations.

Feeding your Baby

We strongly encourage all mothers to consider breastfeeding their baby. Breastfeeding is a natural and beneficial source of nutrition and provides the healthiest start for an infant.  Breast milk provides a protective effect against respiratory illnesses, ear infections, gastrointestinal diseases, allergies, asthma, and eczema. Should breastfeeding not be your choice, however, we will do all we can to support you and find the right formula for your baby. If you have questions about breastfeeding your baby while you are pregnant, schedule a prenatal consult to learn more. Please refer to our Breastfeeding FAQs page for more information on breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding Classes

The Lactation team at Genesis Pediatrics offers a Lactation Breastfeeding Class usually on the 1st Tuesday of every month from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Currently, this class is being offered via Zoom only. Our next classes will be held Oct. 1st, Nov. 5th, and Dec. 3rd.

Attention Parents and Guardians

If your baby is less than 8 months old and you are interested in the RSV vaccine, please call our office at (585) 426-4100 to schedule an appointment and protect your little one’s health.
