When you hear “Watch for respiratory distress or shortness of breath” what does that really mean?
Providers at Genesis Pediatrics often tell caregivers to monitor for shortness or breath or respiratory distress during viral illness. This is an important criteria for when to bring your child in to be evaluated.

If your child has respiratory distress, please call our office immediately! If your child has cyanosis (bluish coloring around the mouth), please call 9-1-1 immediately!
If you or your child has ANY of the following criteria, PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE OFFICE, PLEASE CALL FIRST:

Contact with a confirmed COVID-19 (+) case.

Travel outside of the Rochester area in the last 14 days.

Fever (temperature >= 100.4 F) and cough and shortness of breath/respiratory distress.
