The Dangers of E-cigarettes and Vaping

Calls to the Upstate New York Poison Center in regards to vaping and the use of e-cigarettes have increased in the last year.  In 2018, their call center received 52 calls.  In just 9 months this year, they have received 111 calls related to e-cigarettes.  Additionally, they have received 13 calls that are currently being investigated by the NYS DOH as possible vaping-associated pulmonary illness cases.

Currently, 1 in 5 high school students say they vape and 1 in 20 middle school students admit to trying vaping. The long-term health impact of vaping is unknown. To help combat this growing problem, the Upstate New York Poison Center has produced two educational videos to remind students and parents of the dangers of vaping, and encourage you to help spread them in your communities:
